For fans of the visual arts, the Island offers a Hilton Head Art League and over two dozen art galleries and studios. With close to 1,000 members, the Art League promotes visual arts by sponsoring workshops of nationally known artists, hosting two annual art shows and supporting a gallery in the Sea Pines Center where local artwork is sold year-round. In 2002, the Art League celebrates its 30th anniversary with several special events, including a Gala Celebration in October. Call (843) 671-3242 for additional information.
The Island’s art galleries host a number of local and traveling exhibits during the year, and many hold studio workshops for those who want to improve their artistic skills. On April 27-28, 2002, the Hilton Head Island Hospitality Association is hosting its second annual “Premiere Weekend of the Arts,” a Fine Art and Fine Craft Juried Show. The festival will focus on art vendors from around the country and performing arts. Admission to the event is free and includes almost 90 fine artisans showcasing jewelry, drawings, pastels, watercolor, photography, metalwork, wood, sculpture, oil and acrylic. For more information and a complete list of events, call (800) 424-3387.
“Premiere Weekend of the Arts” kicks off Hilton Head Island’s annual BRAVO! Celebrate the Arts month-long festival in May. Each spring, Hilton Head Island’s BRAVO festival draws a crowd with its variety of visual and performing arts, including award-winning plays, concerts, juried arts and crafts shows, cultural festivals and special events. For additional information on BRAVO and to receive a calendar of events, contact the Hilton Head Island Chamber of Commerce at (800) 523-3373 or visit www.hiltonheadisland.org.
